When "how" becomes "what"

Updated: Jan 22

Some "food for thought" - I'm looking forward to discussions ;-)

When we’re learning a new skill, we’re often insecure at first – we gain more confidence as we walk on, start to make experiences within that field of expertise and eventually start to take conclusions and develop own style and system and with that, add to the growth of that field (hopefully)....

Sometimes such new or additional systems are yet to be brought to their “full height”, may include some kind of “mistakes”, may not work as smooth or known as the “old” etc. …

We can see this very well in the development of software or updates for devices or by structures or laws in the societal and political area. Borders may change and someone who’s living at the same spot may suddenly hold another passport and country. Laws change and someone doing whatever (in an ethical correct way) may suddenly find themselves from being “legal” to be “illegal” and looked at from the system as a criminal…

It can happen, that within such changes, a “loss of the bigger picture” or the original intention or vision occurs.

Let’s look at the theme of “security” within the digital systems as a small example from my “user only” perspective:

- Constant updating of the software, with new “look” and sometimes eve new symbols and when I previously knew where to find what function, I’m suddenly in the position that I have to search for simple tools and click on things I have no clue in advance what is going to happen…. Yes, sometimes I also find things this way that are practical but my, it’s so time consuming…..

- I remember, when the thing with passwords and codes started, we were told to use something we personally can remember and to avoid writing them down for security reason…. Well, that has become kind of impossible… the vast amount of codes and passwords we have to use nowadays and the “rules” of having to have this or that plus number plus something and x amounts of digits – the use of multiple codes and passwords has become a “must” and I can’t always remember with which application I have used which, so I have a book within which I have written them all down… Now things have gone even further and the use of the QR Codes have become common in certain areas of use. There we have absolutely no control over it anymore or do you recognize your QR code of your social media accounts or even your “payment system”???

I’m old enough to remember the times, when we had no personal computers, no cell phones nor smart phone nor internet. When I’ve learned accounting / bookkeeping, I’ve learned it doing it by hand, so I later on actually knew what the computer does for me and when there was something “wrong” I knew where to go to look…

When computers became smaller and smaller and more and more often used in private households, it was all very practical and developed into that direction even more… it was a great service, and was “user friendly”, it was a tool.

Nowadays I sometimes get the impression (as with many “things”), that it’s no longer about it to be a tool for the users only – we see also that “change for the sake of change” is happening and with this the “original task” kind of taken out of sight….

It’s like a shopping mall or big grocery store – yes, of course, they want to sell things, it’s their task right but they can only sell when the customer gets what the customer wants right…. Most people I guess they go regularly to a particular shop and know in which alley the product stands that they want / need… then, suddenly, you enter and everything has changed and you go around and search for your product, become stressed because you know, you’re running late now and may on top of it come into traffic jam etc. etc. – will you, in such a state of “mind and emotion” buy a product you don’t need nor want as they claim to be the reason of why they do that? – well, I don’t…. what is the purpose of a grocery store beside selling products? – could it be, that it’s a service for those who do a different job (service) than growing food by themselves?

What is money then? Isn’t it a “tool” as well, a neutral form of exchange – I mean, if we would still directly exchange goods and services it would be a little extreme… imagine you go grocery shopping but have to pay with a chair, clean their toilet as payment or have to help and being the cashier – wait a second, QR codes, self-check-in, self-cashier or as I encountered once, that I should have taken a photo with a shirt I bought to post on social media (me working for their marketing / advertisement)…. Wow, now we actually pay “double”, we do service (work) for them and pay money as well!!????.... and what happens, if there’s somehow a power-cut or the internet out???

…. Do we really know, what we’re doing???

I don’t want to be misunderstood here – I have absolutely nothing against making “profit”, an earning or accumulation of wealth… not at all – opposite – making that the “what” is in my opinion the “wrong way around”….

Now let me translate that to the field of Astrology - giggles, well, I dare to....

The first thing we learn in Astrology is, that the planets or bodies symbolize the “what”, the placements of these bodies give information about the “how” and the house-systems about the “where” (life theme – as of home, work, relationships, health etc.), yet, there are so many different house systems that this needs to be taken with a bit of a “?” at times… then we have aspects (angles) within which bodies stand, so we get their “relationship” or working together and often, to me it seems that brings us the information of “where” already, but this might be a theme I write separately about one day…

When I first learned Astrology, it was in a time without internet and computers (they just started to be around in private households) yet, no chart calculation software nor ephemerides around other than in book form and printed charts to draw into by hand… WOW – I had to learn how to calculate an Ascendant (nope, I forgot it by now, lol)….

In that time, nobody I’ve heard of, had ever talked about “sidereal Astrology” another system than tropical at all…. After some time, I did “pause” on Astrology and focused onto a “normal” job (various actually - learned a lot) – I did that for decades – I lived my life but was always interested into Astrology… Somehow, things had to “come together” though – Astrology was to me always a tool, to get better understanding….

When I found out, that tropical Astrology does not mirror the placements we can observe in the sky, I was shocked and angry as well – I was in the “fighting state” of “victim consciousness”…

I became a sidereal Astrologer – yet, many tropical Astrologers did come to similar conclusions and I wondered why – so, I did want to understand what had happened….

Looked at in an "objective" way, I couldn’t and still can’t think of a reason why “they” should have intended to cause confusion for almost 2000 years, nope, something else must be behind all of this and probably more than I write here about...

In my research about planetary cycles (heliocentric, also not always observable from Earth in this direct sense, yet indirect if one knows about the “mechanics”), I had to include history and mythology. History is something I don’t enjoy much to read about because most of it recorded is about wars, battles, politics etc. … nevertheless, philosophical writings of ancient times, give a reflection of the times too… Anyhow, I came across a translation of a Persian Astronomer’s and Astrologer’s (it was still one science) writings, which gave me the missing “puzzle piece” – that whole tropical Astrology is a house system. Every year, with the March Equinox, it’s set to 0-point Aries but the Sun isn’t observable there in Aries at that time, the Sun nowadays stands in the constellation Pisces. Nevertheless, it’s the “energy” of something “new” – a nodal point. Confusion was perfect, because of the “naming” – this “house system” was using the same names as the constellations and this understanding was lost / forgotten in times later on…

Now, that we know of sidereal Astrology some of this “school” kind of “demonize” tropical Astrology and even start to “divide within” of those using this or that system of boundaries or how many constellations to include as “signs” and so on… Really????

Chart wheels, in my opinion, are a tool – simplified, making it accessible to a wider “audience” or “clientele”, yet, it’s not the “absolute”…

Furthermore, we have the whole sky above or around us and that’s true for each planet – that means, we have “all of the heaven” within our charts, especially when adding a house system to a chart, without needing to have a “planet” in a specific sign/constellation to have access to that kind of energy….

When we in Astrology make the “how”/path – constellation, sign – to become the “what” / intention, then we’ll be in “battle” and competition forever…

The "what" is usually in a life a "thread"/theme, whereas the how and where changes because they're just an expression of that "what"...

Yes, the "what" does "evolve" in some sense during a life time, of course, but does it really change as much????

Much Love to you All,

Fran
